Equipping your wagons with a visual handbrake indicator is a significant step toward enhancing rail transport safety. To further improve this, consider adding an end switch to the indicator. This switch monitors the handbrake’s released position and returns a digital signal of 0 or 1. The default interface is through a 2.5 mm mono jack connector. Together with telematics, it can send real-time updates directly to the wagon owner or operator. This allows the driver to check the status of all handbrakes in the entire train before departure. Moreover, identifying the applied handbrake with the measured speed of the wagon provides an immediate message about this undesirable condition. This feature gives to wagon keepers a powerful tool for determining responsibility in case of damage.
